
Filipinos look for missing relatives amongst houses swept away by rampaging flood waters
Last week, Typhoon Washi (locally known as Sendong) swept through two Southern Philippine cities causing massive flooding and claiming the lives of over 1,000 people.
There is a large Filipino community within Ventura County, especially Oxnard, where the Gene Haas Foundation and Haas Automation are headquartered. Many local Filipinos have family affected by the disaster and are doing what they can for those in need. Any contribution to those suffering as a result of Typhoon Washi is greatly appreciated.
Donations within Ventura County
For those located within Ventura County, donation items are being collected at the following:
Mary Star of the Sea Church - 463 West Pleasant Valley Road, Oxnard, CA (805.486.6133)Thursday 22nd - Friday 23rd 4pm to 7pm
Monday 26th - Friday 30th 4pm to 7pm
Classroom 4 and 5
Items Collected: clothing, thin blankets, plates, cooking utensils, towels, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, vitamins, cough medicine, etc.
Please bring your items organized in plastic bags. LBC Shipping is providing free shipping to the Philippines.
Volunteers will be needed from Monday 2nd to Wednesday 3rd to sort donations before shipping.
Red Cross Donations
For those who wish to help financially, the Philippine Red Cross is directly aiding those in need. Any amount helps and is greatly appreciated.
