When the Gene Haas Foundation encountered the unique non-profit organization known as the Rain Project Transitional Living Center, we couldn’t wait to help. That’s why we presented the center with two grants totaling $60,000 from 2006 to 2008. This gave the Rain Project Transitional Living Center funds to provide more families and individuals in Ventura County with transitional housing.
The Rain Project Transitional Living Center and Its Work
The Rain Project Transitional Living Center in Camarillo, Ventura County is a unique non-profit organization providing comprehensive support and housing for families and individuals with transitional housing. In all, this 1,000-member organization runs an extensive building with 22 rooms — but it’s more than just a building. This organization makes every effort to care and nurture those in need of a home.
You see, their goal is to do more than just provide the poor and homeless with shelter. The Rain Project Transitional Living Center wants to help heal and support them in order to restore confidence, dignity, and hope. They believe that this does more than just treat poverty. It treats the whole person and reduces addiction, domestic violence, and other negative factors that cause poverty and community unrest.
The Issues Facing the Rain Project Transitional Living Center
While the Rain Project Transitional Living Center does excellent work, it has to operate on a tight operating budget. And, because they aren’t the only program operated by the Human Services Agency, this budget increases and decreases depending on the number of other programs that require funding and have special needs.
While everyone understands the need for the budget, it seems unfair that some families and individuals are being turned away because there simply isn’t enough money to help them. The work being done here is far too valuable to lose. That’s why the Gene Haas Foundation gave these grants to the Rain Project Transitional Living Center. This money will help them to keep operating as well as look after any immediate needs or requirements, giving the center the freedom to do what it needs to.
The Gene Haas Foundation & Giving
Founded in 1999, the Gene Haas Foundation gives to more than just the Rain Project Transitional Living Center. In fact, Mr Haas’ foundation has given more than $8.5 million dollars to over 800 local, statewide, national, and international non-profit organizations since they began giving in 2001. During this time, they have given to all different types of organizations who have all sorts of causes including disaster relief, women in technology and other male dominated fields, first aid, feeding the hungry, and many, many more.
The Gene Haas Foundation truly believes that when everyone works together to find long-term benefits, the entire community benefits from the effort. That’s why Gene Haas has made it a commitment to helping such a varied group of people. One person alone can only reach so many, but when we all reach out together, the results become nothing short of amazing.
